Executive Skills Questionnaire: preliminary study of psychometric properties in a spanish sample
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction. The executive functions are a set of cognitive processes of a higher order that
direct our behavior and cognition, being at the service of a goal that we have previously set.
Objective and research hypothesis. In this context we propose to analyze the psychometric properties of the Executive Skills Questionnaire - teen version (Dawson, and Gaure, 2010), in a Spanish sample - reliability: (internal consistency) and validity - internal structure (factorial analysis). The research hypothesis that underlies it is that Executive Skills Questionnaire - teen version adapted to Spanish presents adequate psychometric properties to be applied in professional practice.
Results There is a clear independence in the adult age of the dimensions: working memory, inhibition of automatic responses and sustained attention. The results indicate that the dimensions that configure executive functioning - regardless of the number of factors - can be grouped in relation to two large areas - cold versus hot - depending on the involvement or not of emotional processing; On the other hand, there is a clear independence of
working memory and inhibition of automatic responses.
Conclusions. The results obtained from this preliminary study allow us to affirm that Executive Skills Questionnaire - teen version is a valid and reliable instrument in the evaluation of executive functions, nevertheless, to insist that it cannot be used to diagnose deficits independently and / or isolated.
