Impact of covid-19 on dynamic/sedentary and indoor/outdoor activities at home between grandfathers and their grandchildren
Main Article Content
Abstract
The influence of the Covid-19 pandemic on activities between grandparents and grandchildren, as well as their unequal interaction pattern, according to the gender of the grandparents, is a psychological field of growing interest. The objective of this work is to analyze the activities between a group of male grandparents and their grandchildren, in the family context of the pandemic. 65 male grandparents have participated, who have answered an interview on 60 of their grandchildren, in relation to their sociodemographic variables and on 40 shared activities of a dynamic / sedentary nature, indoors / outdoors at home; being alone with their grandchildren, or with their grandchildren and their wives, or both, before and during the pandemic. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential tests (ANOVA, Friedman). The results show that male grandparents carry out more sedentary than dynamic activities with their grandchildren, and more indoors than outdoors; Also, these shared activities occur more with grandchildren through daughters than sons. Regarding the types of accompaniment, they do not seem to distinguish between them, and during the pandemic these activities have decreased notably. It is concluded that, given the general decrease in interactions and the increase in sedentary activities, it is necessary to propose a greater intergenerational contact with more dynamic activities, due to its healthy effect on both generations.
