Abstract

Considering bodies beyond a biological construction is to consider the creation of identities from other theoretical bodies, which break with the concepts of binary gender and respond to a continuous reflective process, and therefore of learning. Analyze the experience of the construction of femininity of a transsexual woman, by reviewing her life story and her transition process, to discover alternative proposals to what is established as the sex-gender binary discourse. This research was a
qualitative case study with an exploratory scope; under a grounded theory approach. The unit of analysis was a 41-year-old transsexual woman, a semi-structured interview was conducted, using a thematic guide. The interviews were applied to the participant and her clinical sexologist, in order to gather information regarding the topics of analysis, together the photobiography technique was applied. In the transition process, limitations were experienced, among which the lack of information and the use of ideas that are no longer valid for today’s demands stood out. In the transition process, an identity imbalance is experienced, in addition to the relationship with negative messages, expectations and ignorance on the part of otherness, which generate constant limitations in a transition process that, by building femininity, breaks with the established to the binary sex-gender discourse, considering beyond a single way of being a woman.
