Abstract

Introduction: nursing stands out among the professions most susceptible to the risk of developing physical symptoms, being vulnerable to the symptom of pain, as its work process involves a routine with work overload, interpersonal conflicts, high demand and low social support. Objective: to identify the occurrence of musculoskeletal pain in Primary Health Care nurses. Method: cross-sectional quantitative study, carried out in southern Brazil, between June 2021 and February 2022. Sample of 21 nurses, using a questionnaire related to pain and symptoms musculoskeletal. Data analyzed with descriptive and analytical statistics. Results: 20 (95.2%) of nurses reported pain of varying intensity, in different anatomical regions in the last year. Of these, 8 (38%) stated that they were unable to carry out dailyactivities. And, 10 (47.3%)sought professional help for treatment. Regarding pain intensity: 66.6% rated
their pain as moderate and 14.2% as intense. The greatest pain complaints were associated with age group (p 0.026); and considering the current health status as regular was associated with pain in the wrists/hands (p 0.047), neck (p 0.045); and shoulders (p 0.019); not having time for leisure was associated with lower back pain (p 0.045). Conclusion: PHC nurses feel musculoskeletal pain in different anatomical regions and with varying intensity. And, this pain is associated with risk factors inherent to the work process. The most affected areas were the shoulders, neck and upper back. It was found that age and perception of health status as regular were associated with greater pain complaints. Considering that pain constitutes a problem that can directly affect the quality of life and care of these professionals, the importance of designing strategies aimed at reducing the factors that favor pain in the work environment of these professionals is highlighted.
