Abstract

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is the most frequent psychiatric disorder in the pediatric age (Soutullo and Diez, 2007). Comorbidity is usually a complication of ADHD that is not detected early or not treated adequately, so it is important to emphasize that early diagnosis and the initiation of treatment reduce the risk of comorbidity (Susheuska, Olumchev, Seveska and Kadri, 2001). .

A cross-sectional, descriptive, case-control study was conducted comparing the answers obtained from the questionnaires completed by two groups of families with children between 6 and 16 years old. A group consisting of parents of children with a diagnosis of ADHD (N = 204) and the control group of parents with children without ADHD (N = 342).

The main objective of this study is to determine if children and adolescents with ADHD have major externalizing and internalizing problems compared to those who do not have ADHD symptoms. As well as, raise awareness about the importance of early detection and treatment of comorbidities in ADHD cases.
