La realidad de la memoria en mayores saludables y envejeciendo. Memoria, envejecimiento y longevidad

Resumen

El trabajo de revisión de literatura tuvo como objetivo verificar la producción científica sobre
“memoria, desarrollo cognitivo, envejecimiento frente a longevidad”, identificando y analizando estudios internacionales y nacionales. El método llevado a cabo fue mediante una investigación en las bases: SciELO, UAM, PePSIC, LILACS, PubMed, PsycINFO, Dialnet y Teseo; en un período de 10 años, considerando los estudios publicados entre enero de 2008 y diciembre de 2017. Se encontraron como resultados 793 estudios, siendo analizados 16 artículos después de la aplicación de los criterios de exclusión, destacándose las siguientes afirmaciones: el esfuerzo-compromiso, el rendimiento cognitivo y un mayor sentido del propósito, pueden servir como endofenotipos de la longevidad y una mayor probabilidad de supervivencia. De igual forma, diversos estudios determinaron que el aprendizaje de nuevas habilidades, la orientación a la búsqueda de la novedad, aprender cosas nuevas y mantener la mente comprometida son clave para conseguir un envejecimiento cognitivo exitoso. Así, el entrenamiento en la capacidad de resolución de problemas de la vida diaria, mejora la cognición y se asocia con un mayor rendimiento de la memoria actual. Además el entrenamiento genera cambios en el rendimiento cognitivo. En definitiva, vivir un estilo de vida ocupado se asocia con una mejor cognición. Conclusión: el análisis reveló que además de las características genéticas que pueden condicionar la longevidad, existen otros aspectos no genéticos, como el aprendizaje de nuevas tareas, el compromiso, el sentido del propósito, la ocupación de la mente, el rendimiento cognitivo, las actividades relacionadas con el pensamiento, la búsqueda de soluciones a problemas etc., favorecerían la longevidad de las personas en un envejecimiento exitoso.
